Good morning!
I took the baton around the wonderful Henlow Bridge Lakes parkrun on Saturday where I was touristing, taking it from Run Director Joel Benjamin Davison, and am very excited to take it to my local parkrun Cassiobury parkrun this Saturday.
What a fun adventure!
I have included three photos below, sorry there's not a 'handing over' one but I'll try to get one on Saturday.
Best wishes,
Charlotte

Hi
I was handed the Montrose baton from David at the Edinburgh Parkrun (at Cramond) and this morning, I handed it over to Joel at the Holyrood Park parkrun in Edinburgh this morning, where I was marshalling for a change. Joel was visiting from Bedfordshire, so he will take it to his local parkrun at Henlow Bridge Lakes next Saturday for it to continue on its journey.
A little bit of information about Holyrood Park:-
The park was created in 1541 when King James V was the monarch and it was used as a royal hunting estate.
Its 650 acres comprises hills, glens, ridges and basalt cliffs. In the centre is Arthur’s Seat, which is an extinct volcano, which we run up and is the highest point in Edinburgh. To the west of it are the Salisbury crags. St Margaret's Loch and St Anthony's Chapel add to the scenic surroundings.
It is associated with the Palace of Holyroodhouse, which is 0.8 miles away.
Looking forward to following the baton on its return journey to Montrose, Tasmania.
(Photos to follow, hopefully)

Hullo!
I had the fortune of being handed the baton a few weeks ago in Dunfermline by Theresa and her family, and taking it to Edinburgh. I had a slightly hectic few weeks and wasn’t able to hand it on until last week to Amiko at Edinburgh parkrun, which runs along Edinburgh shoreline by Cramond Island, with the bridges over the Forth to our back. It was one of the first really lovely days of the year, so very happy to have been outside running and passing over the baton!
I’m looking forward to watching its journey back, best of luck to it!

FRIDAY 6 MARCH 2026: EMAIL FROM THERESA-KATHARINA NEUMANN
Hi everyone
My daughters and I are so pleased to be part of your story - my children think this is such a very cool thing to be part of! Thank you so much to everyone who made it possible - from the runners who started it to every person who held the baton and passed it on!
Our family received the friendship baton at Stonehaven Parkrun on Sat 21/2.
Our friend Jamie handed the baton to my 4 year old daughter Remy who proudly took it and brought it to me to run the course with it.
The handover picture at Stonehaven Parkrun failed so we took a proper photo of Jamie passing the baton to Remy after some breakfast and cake.
Me? I'm Teresa, German-born but living in Scotland since 2010. I'm not just a runner but also a keen cyclist. Therefore the baton came out on the bike with me, of course.
On Sunday, I took the baton for a spin on my roadbike on some local roads.
We passed through the royal archway at Edzell and took a photo at our sweet bench which says "Love as aye". A good motto to go by!
During the week, I took the baton on another 25 Mile cycle from Stonehaven to Edzell. On our travels we passed one of the local trig points, Pittengardner.
Travelling all over the country bagging trig pillars is another strange and very niche hobby of mine:
Trig points were historically used for mapping by the Ordnance Survey and played a key role in the creation of the maps of Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland. They are very distinctive concrete pillars which can be found all over the country, typically around 3-5 Miles apart, sometimes more. There are still over 6,000 trig pillars remaining and, like I said, one of my very niche, quirky hobbies is to travel all over to visit and bag trigs. 😁 They can often be found on mountains and hill tops but not exclusively; depending on terrain they might also be in the middle of the woods or overgrown in a thicket of gorse. It's always an adventure finding trigs!
Fun fact: Australia also has trig points which were used for the same purpose! Your closest trig is up on Mount Wellington - and you'd make me very, very happy if, once the baton returns to Tasmania, one of your runners would take the baton up the hill to bag the trig! 😃
My instagram is @teresa_bags_trigs and so far I've travelled to 514 different trigs, plus several hundred subsequent visits. Still over 5,500 left to do 😅
I also do lots of indoor cycling on Zwift and I told the story of the friendship baton to anyone who would listen! 😂 I'm part of Compass Community Cycling and help lead a weekly community group ride on Zwift. On there, my virtual cycling friend Phil Trelease expressed an interest of taking over the baton at his local Parkrun in Wales. Phil's local Parkrun is Conwy or Penrhyn - how awesome would it be if the baton found its way to Phil in the next few months?!? Please help make it possible! 😃
Another person who was very excited hearing the story of the baton and who'd love a shot of it is Liv Horn! Turns out that Liv stays in Tasmania! With a bit of luck both Phil and Liv will receive and pass on the baton, too! 😊
The week with the baton went quick and on Saturday 28/2, we travelled down for a Scottish meetup with my running club Vegan Runners UK.
My brave wee daughter Remy stood in front of over 300 Parkrunners and visitors at Dunfermline parkrun and she passed the friendship baton over to fellow runner David. I'm immensely proud of Remy - she did so well in front of such a big group of people!
David will now take the baton to Edinburgh 😊
Take care everyone - and safe travels to the baton 😁

We’ve released the baton back into the wild! I added a little addition to it to hopefully make it clear that it’s completed the first leg of the journey - we don’t want it to end up back here again by mistake!

I took it to Stonehaven parkrun this morning, which felt appropriate as the Stonehaven team were so helpful to us when we were setting up Montrose parkrun in 2017. I passed it to Teresa for our Vegan Runners group (and her daughter Remy, who was delighted to accept it!)
Teresa ran the Stonehaven route with the baton and plans to take it to Dunfermline parkrun next week.
It will be interesting to see what route it takes back to Tasmania!
All the best,
Jamie

On Monday, I passed the baton to parkrunner Donny, who took it to a club run at local running club Montrose Flyers.

Donny then passed to Run Director Val, who took it to a club run at nearby group St Cyrus Solos.
Val also took the baton for a tour of Montrose’s landmarks…
3. Looking over Montrose Basin to the snow-covered hills of the Angus Glens
She then brought it to a club run at alternative renegade running and walking group Montrose Metalheads Running Club.
There, she passed it back to me. I’m planning to take it to a parkrun a bit further north this Saturday, so will update when I pass it on.

Hi Montrose team,
I received that baton at Loch Leven Parkrun 03/01/26 in Perthshire from Dan
Unfortunately, the following Saturday 10/01/26 my home Parkrun at Montrose in Angus was cancelled due to snow and ice so I took the baton to Auldcathie District Parkrun in West Lothian one of only 16 Parkruns on in Scotland that Saturday. The following Saturday 17/01/26 I took the baton to Kirkcaldy in Fife. Then this Saturday 24/01/26 I took the baton to a very windy and wet home Parkrun at Montrose completing the Batons journey from Tasmania, I passed the baton over to the RD for the day Bryony Walker.
(Two more photos didn't arrive in the email successfully - hopefully resent soon to add to the story)

FROM FACEBOOK SUNDAY 25 JANUARY 2026
The baton has made it!
Cold, wet and windy conditions made it a tough morning but that did not stop 117 people running, jogging and walking the course. Huge respect to everyone who turned up and took part.
Our volunteers were absolute heroes today. Standing out in those conditions so others could parkrun really shows what this community is about. Thank you all so much.
A special congratulations as well to Chris Littlejohn who completed his 100th parkrun today, exactly six years to the day since his very first parkrun. A brilliant milestone made even more impressive by the conditions.
Today was also a special moment as we were honoured to host the Friendship Baton which went round the course with Jamie today after being handed over by Kevin. It left Montrose Foreshore parkrun on Saturday 16 August 2025 with the aim of travelling from Montrose in Tasmania to Montrose in Scotland by passing through as many parkrun communities as possible.
After 161 days of travel and an incredible 20913 kilometres, the baton finally arrived at Montrose parkrun today where it was welcomed by some truly beautiful Scottish weather . That is the equivalent of over 4000 parkruns worth of distance, visiting places including Brisbane, Hong Kong, the OG parkrun at Bushy, Wales and many parkruns across the UK.
Along the way it has been carried by runners, walkers and volunteers, featured in celebrations and adventures and helped form new friendships across the world. It is a fantastic example of what parkrun is really about .
With the first part of the journey complete the Friendship Baton will soon begin its return journey back to Tasmania. The RD team are taking it out for a pizza and beer tonight and before aiming to get it to our fellow Angus 5k parkruns at West Links parkrun and Forfar Loch parkrun. After that it will be great to see how far it can travel on its return journey .
Thank you to everyone around the world who helped guide and protect the baton on its travels and to everyone who joined us at Montrose parkrun today in truly brutal conditions.
A full run report will follow.

Hello Team Friendship Baton!
It's been a brutal new year with snow and ice galore up here! LOTS of parkruns have cancelled but I managed to pass it on to a guy called Kevin at Loch Leven parkrun on 3rd January.
His local parkrun is Montrose, but it was cancelled that day ...and was cancelled again last week. I believe it's on and he'll be there this Saturday and the baton will reach its aphelion before turning to return to you guys in Tassie!
Jamie from Montrose parkrun (Scotland) has been a good shepherder of the baton!
Exciting times,
Dan

Hi team,
My name is Dan, I picked up the baton in Northallerton and have taken it on an Xmas trip round my family at Bedford parkrun (25th Dec), Worcester parkrun (27th Dec), and Jubilee Park parkrun (1st Jan) and will be handing it on to someone at Loch Leven, Scotland tomorrow (3rd Jan)!
I wanted to pass it on at Bo'ness Foreshore (as you guys are a Foreshore too) but it's been cancelled tomorrow because of the ice. I thought about passing it on to my friend in Worcester who is the race director in Bremen in Germany but maybe the baton can have a more exciting return to Tassie, through every parkrun country?
I'll send some photos of me passing it on tomorrow!
Keep on jogging,
Dan

Hi,
I received the baton from my sister Kathryn and took it home to Stockton on Tees. I took it to the now ended Tees Barrage parkrun. Although this event no longer takes place it’s where I fell in love with parkrun and did 263 events.
As you’ll see from the photo with my running club Stockton Striders AC, this is only 4 miles away from Middlesbrough where the baton has already visited.
Unfortunately illness stopped the plan to take it to my new local Parkrun.
Today it was passed onto Dan at Northallerton who plans to take it into Scotland. It created a lot of interest, with lots of people asking where it’s heading. As you’ll see from the photo Hobsie the dog was also very interested.
Thanks for the opportunity to take part. I look forward to following the journey.

Hi
I was handed the baton whilst visiting family in Nottingham. We zipped back up the A1 to our home in York and I took it for a quick tourist trip to see our beautiful city - stopping for photos at the famous York Minster, the Shambles and finally a photo in the courtyard of my work - the University of York, Kings Manor campus!
My daughter Emma and I handed it over on Saturday 29th November at a very very wet Heslington parkrun (in York) to Kathryn Carroll who is taking it northwards to her sister near Middlesbrough
Great to be part of the journey and I look forward to seeing where it lands next!

Feels fitting that we were passed the friendship baton as I spent a few months in Hobart 20-odd years ago and met some lovely people including Ian Martin and Andrew Martin. Shame parkrun wasn’t there at the time!
We returned from Wales last weekend to Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire with the baton and there were a few nerves over whether parkrun would be cancelled due to Storm Claudia. First choice for today - Belton House - was indeed cancelled but that meant a trip to Nottingham’s beautiful Wollaton Hall parkrun instead with the bonus of picking up our daughter from uni to join us. Passed the baton on to Helen from York to continue the journey further north towards its destination. Safe travels!

A little tour of Anfield before we head south on Saturday (Much to the appreciation of our creator and often run director at Montrose Foreshore Park Run, Ben Thomsett). Thanks Leigh. Everyone from our park run are travelling vicariously with the friendship baton and saving countless tonnes of CO2 emissions.
On average a medium sized airplane burns around 300L of fuel per 100km. This translates to about 6000L of fuel or around 1800kg of CO2 saved for one Montrose Foreshore park runner doing the same 19000km as our friendship baton! If we all did the trip the CO2 savings would be immense. And we aren't even at Montrose Scotland Park Run yet!

Hi, I got the Baton from Pauline at Albert and will be taking it on trip down to Vicars Water parkrun in Mansfield on Saturday. A bit of a detour from it's journey north but thought it deserved to see a bit more of our lovely country. It came to Scarborough and Whitby with me at the weekend and will be travelling down to Chesterfield tomorrow.

- Jamie has passed the Montrose baton on to me and it’s had a tour of Teesside .
- It’s quite appropriate really as we have a couple of links to Australia. It’s been to the birthplace of Captain James Cook who mapped more of the world than Google ever could - without Wi-Fi, just a ship, a sextant and geometry
- . It’s also been to our famous transporter bridge . Our town was a centre of iron steel and bridge building ; the Sydney harbour bridge was built here by Dorman Long and my grandfather helped build it !
- We finished off with the riverside stadium home of the Boro , a bit of a tenacious link - but we do have an Aussie team member Riley Mcgree .
- I’ll be passing on the baton at Albert Parkrun on Saturday to continue its friendship adventure , maybe it’ll stop at Albert park Melbourne on the way back to you
- Regards Pauline

Hello,
The baton is on the move again. We were approached by a lovely lady at the home of parkrun, bushy parkrun today (27/09). We ourselves were visiting bushy parkrun from the north east of England and are members of billingham running club. We had 2 families down who are attending oasis and the women's rugby world cup final and decided to make a stop off at bushy park for parkrun. We'll be taking the baton back to the club and to the north east to see which member can help it's on a journey

Hello,
I am lucky to have been given the Montrose Foreshore parkrun baton.
It was given to me on Saturday 20th Sept at the South Bank parkrun, Brisbane, Australia. I have attached a picture.
After a (very quick) stop at Hong Kong airport (see other picture), the baton is currently doing some tourism in London (see picture - Big Ben, the Parliament and London eye in the background) while waiting for its next parkrun on Saturday.
Best regards,
Eliane
