Welcome to Montrose Foreshore Park Run, located near Hobart in Tasmania, Australia. The aim of this event is to physically take this friendship baton from our friends at one park run to our friends at another, with the goal of getting the baton to Montrose Park Run in Scotland. Then return the baton to Montrose Foreshore Park Run in Tasmania. Hopefully by the most adventurous route possible.
At each waypoint, we would like you to take a photo at the park run where you have taken the baton. Send it here by using the web address or scanning the QR code on the baton and emailing this page with your photo(s) and we will post the adventures of our friendship baton. How many different park runs will the baton visit? How many countries will it visit? Let's hope the chain isn't broken and/or the baton gets lost.

EMAIL FROM KEVIN SMITH ON 25 JANUARY 2026
Hi Montrose team, I received that baton at Loch Leven Parkrun 03/01/26 in Perthshire from Dan Unfortunately, the following Saturday 10/01/26 my home Parkrun at Montrose in Angus was cancelled due to snow and ice so I took the baton to Auldcathie District Parkrun in West Lothian one of only 16 Parkruns on in Scotland that Saturday. The following Saturday 17/01/26 I took the baton to Kirkcaldy in Fife. Then this Saturday 24/01/26 I took the baton to a very windy and wet home Parkrun at Montrose completing the Batons journey from Tasmania, I passed the baton over to the RD for the day Bryony Walker.
(Two more photos didn't arrive in the email successfully - hopefully resent soon to add to the story)

The baton has made it! Cold, wet and windy conditions made it a tough morning but that did not stop 117 people running, jogging and walking the course. Huge respect to everyone who turned up and took part. Our volunteers were absolute heroes today. Standing out in those conditions so others could parkrun really shows what this community is about. Thank you all so much. A special congratulations as well to Chris Littlejohn who completed his 100th parkrun today, exactly six years to the day since his very first parkrun. A brilliant milestone made even more impressive by the conditions. Today was also a special moment as we were honoured to host the Friendship Baton which went round the course with Jamie today after being handed over by Kevin. It left Montrose Foreshore parkrun on Saturday 16 August 2025 with the aim of travelling from Montrose in Tasmania to Montrose in Scotland by passing through as many parkrun communities as possible. After 161 days of travel and an incredible 20913 kilometres, the baton finally arrived at Montrose parkrun today where it was welcomed by some truly beautiful Scottish weather . That is the equivalent of over 4000 parkruns worth of distance, visiting places including Brisbane, Hong Kong, the OG parkrun at Bushy, Wales and many parkruns across the UK. Along the way it has been carried by runners, walkers and volunteers, featured in celebrations and adventures and helped form new friendships across the world. It is a fantastic example of what parkrun is really about . With the first part of the journey complete the Friendship Baton will soon begin its return journey back to Tasmania. The RD team are taking it out for a pizza and beer tonight and before aiming to get it to our fellow Angus 5k parkruns at West Links parkrun and Forfar Loch parkrun. After that it will be great to see how far it can travel on its return journey . Thank you to everyone around the world who helped guide and protect the baton on its travels and to everyone who joined us at Montrose parkrun today in truly brutal conditions. A full run report will follow.
It’s so cool that it arrived here at Montrose on the very day we had our core team “Christmas” night out! Well done and thanks to everyone who has played a part in this story so far. Now for the return journey!
