JOSEPH HILLS THE CONVICT
Joseph was tried at the Cambridge Assize on 12 March 1834 and sentenced to transportation for life. He was convicted of "stealing from a dwelling house".

THE WILLIAM METCALFE
Joseph was transported on the William Metcalfe. This ship departed Portsmouth on 23 May 1834 and arrived in Van Diemen's Land on 4 September 1834. The William Metcalf was under the command of Ed Philipson, surgeon Hy G Brock. The voyage was 102 days sailing time. 240 sailed and all arrived living.
